SOMATIC EXPERIENCING

Regulate your nervous system, tap into the deep wisdom of your body and transform your life.

Somatic Experiencing
for anyone ready to release what’s past and step powerfully into the present .

“Human beings are born with an innate capacity to triumph over trauma. I believe that the healing process can be a catalyst for profound awakening—a portal opening to emotional and genuine spiritual transformation. I have little doubt that as individuals, families, communities, and even nations, we have the capacity to learn how to heal and prevent much of the damage done by trauma. In so doing, we will significantly increase our ability to achieve both our individual and collective dreams.”

--Peter Levine, Founder of Somatic Experiencing

What is Somatic Experiencing?

Somatic Experiencing is a gentle form of nervous system regulation and trauma healing. Sessions employ a wide variety of techniques including breath, sound, movement, visualization and internal dialoguing. They are a deep dive into the unconscious mind and body and facilitate connection between what is consciously known and unknown to help remove blocks and obstacles which get in the way of living your most authentic and deeply meaningful life. By definition, trauma is not what happened to you, but how you experienced it. I believe we all carry experiences of trauma in our bodies whether acute, chronic, situational, relational or developmental. I work with individuals at unraveling the past from the present and harmonizing the many often conflicting messages between the mind and body so they can be and respond to whatever comes their way in life from a place of inner resource and powerful choice. In Somatic Experiencing the full spectrum of the human experience is welcome and all parts are honored.

Reasons you might be here

  1. Inner conflict and ambivalence are keeping you at a standstill from taking action or making positive change in your life.

  2. You feel disconnected, unsafe, or in constant judgment and it’s gotten in the way of life’s greatest pleasures.

  3. You are at a crossroads or transition in your life and are unsure about what steps to take or even where to begin.

  4. You are tired of seeking answers from the outside and ready to tap into your own inner guidance.

  5. You are carrying trauma you are finally ready to heal and release safely and with support.

Somatic Experiencing FAQs

  • Somatic experiencing can incorporate breath and sound but does not activate or engage the sympathetic nervous system. It is slow and gentle, focusing on stabilization, resourcing and repair. It works directly with the nervous system to shift the body from an activated, fight flight response to act from a place of presence and conscious choice through sound, movement, visualization, and breath, guided by the practitioner.

  • Somatic experiencing can involve self touch or basic touch from the practitioner on parts of the body such as the head, chest, back, hands or feet. Any touch is only done with consent and need not be part of the experience at all.

Somatic Experiencing Philosophy

The more I work with intimacy the more I realize the importance of understanding and tending to trauma to change patterns and behavior. This type of therapeutic work can be activating, triggering and bring up deep seated fears and unresolved conflicts which need to be attended to safely. Somatic Experiencing has been my route to becoming more trauma informed and to transforming conditioned patterns around intimacy.

It is paramount for me to be able to handle whatever emerges in our sessions with extreme care and skill and have a support system of practitioners and teachers to learn from and refer to as needed.

MY JOURNEY

In 2022 I began my Somatic Experiencing Training, a 3 year program through the Somatic Experiencing Institute. It has been an awe inspiring journey which has given me so much compassion for the human experience, how differently each of us are wired and how our unique histories and conditioning change the lens through which we experience the world. Most importantly it has given me a wide array of skills and tools for nervous system regulation and trauma healing which I use with my clients and in my own life.

“Somatic Experiencing supports regulation of the autonomic nervous system, which underlies every aspect of our physical, emotional and psychological functioning. By working directly with a client’s physiology it enhances the depth, effectiveness and outcome of psychotherapeutic interventions. It supports mood regulation, the reworking of addictive patterns and the prevention and resolution of PTSD. It can also be helpful in reducing chronic pain and trauma related symptoms presenting in the body which can interrupt a client's progress toward their life goals.”
